Nimsoft Usage Metering

Usage metering provides detailed, hourly usage data for Nimsoft probes (intelligent data collectors) and infrastructure (Robots and Hubs).

Included as a basic capability of Nimsoft Monitoring Solutions, Nimsoft Usage Metering gathers and displays usage statistics for internal and customer use, and allows Service Providers to build their own pricing and service models for monitoring and management of customer infrastructure.

Detailed, Granular Usage Metering of your Nimsoft Monitoring System Implementation

With highly elastic, virtualized data center and cloud environments now a core part of your IT infrastructure, more than ever, Service Providers and IT professionals need to be able to understand the detailed usage of their infrastructure, and their monitoring solution. At the same time, the need to convey to customers and internal business partners the value that is delivered to them is increasingly important - And if you are a service provider, the capability to create your own unique billing system for customers can be a key enabler of new business, and higher value services.

Nimsoft's Usage Metering provides the functionality to enable these benefits - Collecting hourly and daily monitoring usage statistics for all Nimsoft probes (intelligent data collectors) and remotely monitored devices.

  • For agent-based probes this includes actual usage on the target device.
  • For agent-less probes (such as network device monitoring probes, SNMP data collectors, and remote scripts) usage information includes all of the devices monitored from that probe
  • End-user experience probes and transaction monitoring devices include the actual usage data

Data is retained in the Nimsoft database for a 60 day period, and information can be easily displayed in the Nimsoft Unified Monitoring portal with included aggregate and individual usage meter displays, customized displays or can be mined from the Nimsoft database with standard SQLServer commands for external use.

Enabling more value from your monitoring of customer and business services

Using these key capabilities, Service Providers can build and incorporate monitoring as a well understood component of usage-based business models for customers and provide easily accessible customer reports and displays of actual monitoring usage. At the same time, it enables IT Departments to provide the hard evidence needed by internal business units to understand their exact usage and the value that IT services delivers to them, and if using a usage-based internal billing model, avoid the surprise that unexpectedly high usage can bring at the end of a reporting period.
