SMART Technologies Arms New Headquarters with Nimsoft Monitoring Solution

Interactive whiteboard technology pioneer takes holistic approach to optimize service levels across its new high-performance IT infrastructure

Redwood City, Calif. – December 8, 2009 – Nimsoft, Inc., the first provider of Unified Monitoring™ solutions, today announced that SMART Technologies is deploying the Nimsoft Monitoring Solution (NMS) across its new, state-of-the-art high-performance IT infrastructure at its Calgary Headquarters.

The pioneer and market leader in easy-to-use interactive whiteboards and other group collaboration tools will rely on NMS to monitor its diverse IT environment including hundreds of physical and virtual production servers, its backbone networking and storage infrastructure, and its Cisco IP Telephone systems.

The company is also using NMS to monitor off-site locations such as its manufacturing plant in Ontario and operations facilities in Europe. By taking a holistic approach to infrastructure monitoring with a single, comprehensive solution, Nimsoft enables SMART to cut operational costs, while helping ensure 24x7 uptime.

“The monitoring solution we had in place prior to deploying Nimsoft was not meeting our growing business needs,” said Rod Taylor, Senior Manager of Information Services (IS) Service Operations at SMART. “We hit a brick wall with it in terms of scope and size. After evaluating a number of alternatives, it was clear Nimsoft met all of our requirements and would enable us to reduce administrative and operational overhead.

NMS was fast and easy to deploy, and it displays the data we need across all systems and platforms in a single screen, simplifying monitoring and reporting and eliminating many manual tasks. Ultimately, this saves us time and money.”

Deploying NMS across the entire infrastructure required just two servers, as opposed to the 10 or more servers other solutions needed. This reduction in hardware represents a savings of more than $60,000 and provides a more streamlined approach that is easier to manage and maintain. SMART is realizing additional cost savings by eliminating the need to hire dedicated full-time employees to maintain the monitoring system.
