Global Printing Press Manufacturer Selects Nimsoft to Provide Advanced Service Level Management of Critical Applications

Koenig & Bauer deploys NimBUS to support development of next generation printing presses

Munich – May 16, 2007 –Nimsoft Inc., an emerging leader in service level management (SLM) solutions, announced that Koenig & Bauer, a global printing press manufacturer, is implementing its NimBUS SLM solution. The company, headquartered in Wuerzburg, Germany, will use NimBUS to monitor the demands placed on the server infrastructure as well as manage the response time of critical line of business applications. These applications are central to the company’s ability to design and develop a new generation of printing press machines. The deployment will ensure that Koenig & Bauer can proactively manage and monitor the availability of this key line-of-business application across all four of its German factories.

"Before implementing the NimBUS solution, we had to collect performance data manually from different sources in order to deliver the results in a graphical format for reporting purposes. This required a huge amount of effort for what should be a relatively straight forward task," says Tuffentsammer "What had formerly been a time consuming and error prone activity is now done automatically at the push of a button."

End user satisfaction is an important metric for Koenig & Bauer’s IT department. The teams of production planners and engineers, based at the factories in Wuerzburg, Frankenthal, Radebeul and Trennfeld, expect all line of business applications – such as the internal ERP system or the electronic archive for construction drawings to be readily accessible.  The NimBUS solution will transform what has been a largely manual measurement process to a more automated one. NimBUS automatically generates an alert when the thresholds of the application or system performance may be breached. Now Koenig & Bauer’s IT department will be able to compare the application and system performance data against predefined criteria and thresholds and automatically generate results into graphical reports. This will make it far easier to take a holistic view across the application and supporting infrastructure.

The applications used by Koenig & Bauer are all very time and resource-intensive. Using NimBUS, it will be possible to measure how long it takes for example to conduct an archive research for CAD construction drawings. Equally, NimBUS will allow the company to monitor the time that it takes to initiate and complete a print job request and capture all the necessary data needed to create accurate threshold metrics.  In addition, the company plans to use NimBUS to monitor Internet and Intranet availability.
