Tridex Systems Reaps Significant Benefits with Nimsoft

Nimsoft Saves Managed Service Provider Time and Its Customers Money

Redwood City, Calif. – November 24, 2009 – Nimsoft, the first provider of Unified Monitoring™ solutions, today announced that Tridex Systems reported significant costs savings for itself and its customers since deploying the Nimsoft Monitoring Solution (NMS).

Tridex Systems, a managed service provider in Colorado, helps mid-sized businesses extract more value from their IT investment. The company had been using a mix of different network monitoring tools, but no combination provided all of the functionality they needed. 

Managing alerts had also become a real challenge; the IT staff was spending more time evaluating and clearing their mailboxes of false alerts than responding to them. Tridex set out to find a solution partner that could not only handle its monitoring needs, but also help solve its alerting issues.  Nimsoft was selected, in part, for its self-acting alert capability—a real differentiator from its competitors.

“NMS not only sends out a ‘service-down’ alert, it automatically brings a service back online without any action from our IT staff,” explains Mary Bennett, Director of Managed Services for Tridex. “We can always review the event log to determine whether we need to do additional work, but the key is getting the service back up quickly with no discernable break in function.”

NMS allows Bennett to limit the number of alerts generated by a single fault and to turn off alerts during specific time periods. “Now we see one alert per incident, instead of dozens, and we know that if it’s outside the maintenance window we need to pursue it. Our email volume has been cut in half,” she says.

Bennett estimates that the self-healing alerts and subsequent reduction in emails reduced the workload on her IT team by about 20%.

Bennett also finds the summary reports generated by NMS extremely valuable. Performance reports can be broken out by customer and by server for convenient account tracking. In the past, quantifying slowing performance was difficult; estimates were based on gut feel or user complaints.

“With NMS, we’re able to actually observe trends and specifically identify when and where performance degrades,” Bennett notes. “When I present reports, the clearly designed graphical summaries help executives immediately grasp the situation. Getting buy-in for new servers, memory, and other equipment is very straightforward now, thanks to Nimsoft.”

NMS has also enabled Tridex Systems to offer a valuable new service to customers– monitoring network traffic between remote sites. In one case, after just one week of monitoring, Tridex could show that although the customer was paying for a full T1 line, they were only receiving fractional T1 bandwidth from the telecom provider. In other cases, they’ve been able to advise customers that based on usage trends, they don’t need full T1 lines, fractional T1 lines will suffice, significantly slashing their monthly telecom bills.
