Nimsoft – The Most Scalable Monitoring Solution on the Planet

Results of recent customer scalability tests suggest that the Nimsoft Monitoring Solution is both the lowest overhead and the highest scaling monitoring solution available

Redwood City, Calif. – June 15, 2009 – Nimsoft, the ”Big 4” alternative for IT performance and availability monitoring solutions, today announced the results of scalability tests run in conjunction with several very large customers that it believes makes it possibly the single most scalable monitoring solution available.

This incredible scalability has been achieved through the advanced design and architecture of the Nimsoft Monitoring Solution, and also offers the customer additional benefits such as minimal resource impact on the monitored systems and a minimal hardware requirement for the monitoring solution itself.

The Nimsoft Monitoring Solution architecture and scalability test results will be discussed in a webinar on these dates/times:

”Several customers came to us and wanted to know where the limits were in terms of scalability of the solution”, said Mark Rivington, VP Technology for Nimsoft. “So, rather than testing in our own labs, we decided to go directly to those customers and run the tests in their environment. What we saw was very pleasing to us because we met and exceeded the customer’s expectations and in fact we still haven’t found the true limit of the solution”.

Some of the actual customer achievements are:

A major US-based managed service provider is actively using Nimsoft to monitor the availability of 40,000 network devices from 4 POPs. Each Nimsoft probe is measuring 10,000 network devices every 2 ½ minutes.

Another European customer is using Nimsoft to measure CPU, Disk and Memory on each of their servers and are taking measurements every 5 seconds, with an imperceptible overhead on the monitored server

A major investment bank is now using Nimsoft on dealing room systems, whereas they have never before managed to get any other product certified because of the overhead and intrusiveness of other solutions

A major hosting provider has tested a single Nimsoft “hub” to being able to have 10,000 servers concurrently attached and monitored. The Nimsoft Monitoring Solution can have dozens of hubs within a single instance of the solution.

A customer compared Nimsoft with Microsoft SCOM for monitoring Linux servers and found that SCOM ran at 3% CPU utilization when idle and peaked to 40-50% utilization when actually collecting data. The Nimsoft CPU utilization was “hardly detectable” in the same tests

Database tests have been run to show that Nimsoft can perform over 7,000 “inserts per second”

“Scalability or resource overhead has become a limiter for many organizations using both traditional or open source monitoring solutions, particularly in the Web 2.0 world where infrastructures are being sized to levels that have never been seen before. We have seen many companies perform unnatural acts because of the limitations of their monitoring solutions.” said Gary Read, President and CEO of Nimsoft.

“Over the years, whenever we’ve been close to the limits of the current version of the product, we’ve further enhanced our solution to continue to raise the bar. This is testament to the underlying architecture with the Nimsoft solution but also to the extreme talent of our engineering team that’s simply the best in the business”.
