Spent a few days in Latin America calling on the big gun Service Providers, mostly running legacy monitoring tools. Are they happy with what they have? Well, 10 executive visits yielded 7 technical demos. We have rolled into a proof of concept with a few of these customers already – in less than one week! Just shows what can happen when you are selling a product that drives economic benefit instead of pure cost.

After 11 great years in Madison, I have made the move to (back) to the Bay Area. While Madison has a very well earned rep as a fantastic place to live, it’s a pretty lousy place to launch international travel. So I am lightening my backpack PLUS getting closer to West Coast Asia hubs.

I am leaving behind (but not saying goodbye to) many lifelong friends from Area Code 608. Many of those friends are my ex-coworkers from CDW Berbee. These are the type of folks you want to do battle with day-to-day in the competitive MSP market space – brilliant, caring, innovative – and real fun to have a few beers with.

Thankfully I get the same kind of work environment at Nimsoft with slightly nicer meteorological conditions.

Just spent quality time with IT leaders at India’s top Global Outsourcers. Here’s what cool. The way every single company is actively looking for disruptive technology for competitive edge, price advantage, service differentiator – all the time. Of course they are all over Nimsoft. I don’t need to strain to connect the dots on the criticality of “time to value” and “ease of deployment” in the large outsourcing business. They get it. It’s interesting and gratifying to see Nimsoft core values reflected back so positively from a huge market segment with a track record of embracing “new and improved”.

16 days swinging through Australia, Singapore and India. Very excited about meeting with Service Providers in these newer Nimsoft markets. CA is helping us extend our reach beyond North America and Western Europe. Very confident that the “time to value” message that has made us so successful with SPs in the US will make sense in these emerging countries also.

Summertime Blues

Hellish rain passing through Madison right now. The storm is breaking down the record heat – 91 degrees on May 24! I love summertime as much as the next guy, but for anybody that runs or has run data centers, big heat and lightning are the enemy. Stone cold lock that sometime in the summer you are going off grid. All that next gen, way cool, cloud technology backed by a five nine SLA is now at the mercy of Rudolf Diesel’s grand invention circa 1893. My stomach gets butterflies just thinking about it. Cheers to all the data center managers out there that keep the IT world cool and powered in face of mother nature’s summertime wrath.

Yesterday some Nimsoft colleagues were doing some cloud business as usual and ran into something pretty interesting.While attempting to build a Small Windows AMI in the Eastern Region Data Center, they received a not available due to “insufficient capacity” message. Small Linux AMIs – OK. Large Windows – OK too. Hmm, perhaps Amazon is out of inventory on another “Best Seller”? Are cloud data centers and warehouses full of books closer cousins than we think?

News from the “just been acquired” front. So far, so good. All the CA folks I have met and worked with are just good people. Smart, driven and in possession of good humor. There is SO MUCH that we are able to do with CA muscle, including taking our MSP focus to emerging markets – Brazil, China, India, Russia, and more. We’re building teams for that right now. So I’m off to Redwood City to talk with candidates. Not much evidence of slow and plodding big companyism. We’re still operating Nimsoft at max velocity.
