CA Technologies Delivers New but “Essential” Values with CA Nimsoft Monitor 6
In October of 2012, CA Technologies introduced its new CA Nimsoft Monitor 6 with significant enhancements in its support for monitoring application flows over the network, visualization, time to deploy and ease of administration, as well as a new executive dashboard. CA Nimsoft Monitor 6 is also the first major Nimsoft release to reflect its new positioning as a centerpiece in CA’s “Essential” solution group, optimized for faster time to value, compactness, and fully integrated efficiencies, versus CA’s more modular and functionally rich “Comprehensive” solutions. This ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATES® (EMA™) impact assessment addresses the CA Nimsoft announcement in context with both how it speaks to industry requirements, as well as its
broader market positioning.
Fujitsu adds Nimsoft monitoring, service desk to cloud offering
April 18, 2012
Fujitsu and CA Technologies' Nimsoft division have announced a partnership that will add Nimsoft's IT service monitoring and service desk applications to Fujitsu's Global Cloud Platform as IT Management as a Service (ITMaaS). Fujitsu will offer Nimsoft Monitor and Nimsoft Service Desk, which are multi-tenanted, as cloud services hosted from Fujitsu's datacenters.
Convergence gathers pace as Nimsoft adds DCIM to IT monitoring
April 2, 2012
The introduction of Nimsoft ecoMeter is something of a milestone in the evolution of digital infrastructure management. This is the first time IT and DCIM have been incorporated in a single product and delivered (usually) as a service.
IT service monitoring company Nimsoft has been steadily building up its capabilities – and its customer base – since it was acquired by CA Technologies in 2010. It has now taken another step forward, integrating the core functions of CA's ecoMeter datacenter infrastructure management (DCIM) system into Nimsoft Monitor, its comprehensive IT monitoring and management system. Nimsoft ecoMeter is based on the core components of CA's ecoMeter (a more comprehensive DCIM product aimed at large datacenter operators). Managers use ecoMeter to monitor and analyze real-time data about power consumption and environmental conditions, such as humidity, temperature, airflow etc.
Nimsoft gets service desk, new leadership and more customer momentum
August 24, 2011
A lot has been happening at Nimsoft in its second year as part of CA Technologies. There's been an expansion into IT service management (ITSM) via the acquisition of InteQ as well as a change in leadership, with Chris O'Malley coming from CA proper to replace Gary Read as CEO. But Nimsoft continues to grow and expand its footprint in the managed service provider (MSP) space, which is driving most of its business. Nimsoft is also winning more deals in Asia and Latin America.
Nimsoft: Same Strategy, New Leadership, 80 Percent Growth
When CA Technologies acquired Nimsoft about 15 months ago, I openly wondered if CA would suffocate Nimsoft’s corporate culture and business strategy — which involves selling managed services software into the midmarket. Instead of killing Nimsoft, CA maintained a hands-off approach and Nimsoft flourished. But more recently, a new challenge has popped up: Some of Nimsoft’s top talent — including former CEO Gary Read and former VP Phil LaForge — have left in recent months. So how has Nimsoft responded?

Tier1Research Case study: Nimsoft deployment at SoftLayer
Recently, Tier 1 Research had a chance to sit down with representatives from both Nimsoft (now a part of CA Technologies) and SoftLayer, and learn a bit more about the implementation of Nimsoft's suite of offerings within the SoftLayer environment.
Teir1Research: SunGard teams up with Nimsoft to monitor the cloud
SunGard's Availability Services division is gearing up its Enterprise Cloud Service, which has been in controlled availability (in a full production environment) after a period of private beta in April 2010, through integrating Nimsoft's monitoring system (NMS) into its cloud platform. The value of this offering is twofold: 1) it addresses customers' need to monitor their mission-critical applications in real time and 2) SunGard can provide proactive service management and customized monitoring policies on the fly, leveraging extensive APIs provided by Nimsoft's NMS.
The 451Group: Nimsoft adds Vblock support, pay-as-you-go plan
Nimsoft continues to make aggressive moves from within CA Technologies, adding support for Vblock infrastructure, power management and new public cloud environments, while offering usage metering that will drive a pay-as-you-go, consumption-based pricing model. Many of these new features should be especially popular with the vendor's large and growing service-provider customer base.
EMA: Nimsoft Unifies Monitoring for Vblock Converged Infrastructure
On September 28, 2010, Nimsoft announced support within their NMS management product/service offerings for integrated, unified monitoring of the VCE Coalition’s Vblock converged datacenter infrastructure solutions. Vblock represents a pre-configured, bundled solution that includes compute, network and storage technologies, all tightly packaged together for rapid deployment and highly flexible usage by virtue of its heavy utilization of virtualization technologies. Nimsoft is the first to offer seamless, one-step unified monitoring tools for Vblock Infrastructure Packages, and the new capabilities arrive at a time when Vblock solutions are reaching significant levels of deployment. Driven by the Vblock’s growing popularity, the need for unified management solutions for converged infrastructure is becoming increasingly obvious to anyone who seeks to achieve the full potential of this important new technology.
The 451Group: Market Development - Under CA, Nimsoft introduces IT performance monitoring as a service
Nimsoft has taken another step toward cloud management with the release of Nimsoft On Demand, a SaaS version of the company's Nimsoft Monitoring Solution. It's Nimsoft's first release since it was acquired by CA Inc in March and gives the new CA business unit a better story to tell for monitoring public cloud workloads.
Tier1Research: How will you monitor that hybrid cloud? Rackspace picks
On the heels of the upswing in unified computing and hybrid solutions, comes an increasing interest in unified monitoring. One of the leading cloud computing providers, Rackspace, has picked ITSM provider Nimsoft as its monitoring solution of choice. Nimsoft, which was recently acquired by CA Inc for $350m, has been picking up strong interest from the managed hosting and managed service provider worlds (300 of them are now using Nimsoft products) with its Unified Monitoring product.
